A Couple Discovers A Little Hummingbird Trapped In A Flowerpot That Is Unable To Fly

Michelle Perner and her boyfriend were walking around outside when they came upon a frail and wounded hummingbird in a flowerpot. They promptly retrieved a smaller pot that had fallen on top of her in the hopes that this would assist, but the poor bird looked to be too damaged to fly away.

“She tried to fly numerous times after we removed the pot, but she just fell down again,” Perner told The Dodo.

The couple picked up the small bird and carried her home with them, not wanting to leave her to suffer. They heated some water with sugar, let it cool, then poured the combination into a water bottle cap and offered it to the hummingbird, who enthusiastically took it.

“I dropped pieces of water towards the bird’s beak with my finger,” Perner explained. “She was thirsty, and her tiny tongue couldn’t stop sipping!” Her physical appearance changed after she drank, but she was still unable to fly.”

Despite the fact that the sugar water helped the hummingbird regain her vigor, her wing was still broken and she was unable to fly away. The couple decided to contact a local wildlife rescue to come and collect the hummingbird since they knew she wouldn’t live on her own like that and didn’t have the expertise or means to care for her.

Perner remarked, “By this time, she was fairly calm and was behaving really well to being held and fed.” “While we contacted a bird sanctuary, we provided her a dark and cool open box to sit in and eat in.”

“They plan to bring the bird back to our facility and release her once her flying is restored,” Perner added.
