A Moose And Her Calves Spend The Day In This Family’s Backyard, And A Man Documents It

Roland Rydstrom of Anchorage, Alaska, recently had some unwelcome visitors; a mom moose and her two babies showed up in his garden last week. Not only that, but the moose were so taken with Rydstrom’s grass that they chose to spend the day there.

The tiny pals tasted everything from the chairs to the gates, and after they were satisfied that the area was secure, they curled up together and even napped. Their mother even fed them lunch at one point. Rydstrom documented the whole family vacation from the comfort of his own home, and once it was done, he posted the photos to the Internet. They went viral almost quickly, demonstrating that people needed to see something so pure and sweet during these trying times.

The animals didn’t even notice Rydstrom when he noticed the moose and opened the blinds to get a closer look. He told Bored Panda, “Right away, I spotted the Flat Stanley my relatives brought me from Iowa.” “I told my cousins and their primary school group that I’d snap a picture of Flat Stanley with the moose in my yard, but I hadn’t been home while the moose were here in the almost three months I’d been working from home — a fairly regular occurrence. Flat Stanley had joined me on the local hiking trails, but I’d had little luck photographing moose so far.”

The Alaska Moose is the state’s designated land animal, with 175,000–200,000 of these massive creatures making their home in the Last Frontier.

Surprisingly, Alaska moose are sexually dimorphic, with males being 40% heavier than females. Male Alaska moose may reach heights of over 2.1 meters (6.9 feet) and weigh over 635 kg (1,400 lb). Female Alaska moose, on the other hand, stand around 1.8 meters (5.9 feet) tall at the shoulder and weigh up to 478 kg (1,054 lb). The Alaska moose is the biggest member of the deer family, as well as the world’s largest moose.
