To Keep Her Warm, A Hairless Hamster Gets A Tiny Sweater
Silky’s family was unable to bring her with them to their new house when they chose to relocate. She was sent to the Oregon Humane Society in Portland, Oregon, where workers fell in love with the quirky little hamster right away.
Silky is unique in that she is devoid of hair.
“Silky is hairless owing to a genetic abnormality,” the Oregon Humane Society’s Diana Gabaldon told The Dodo. “She isn’t as fluffy as a regular hamster, but she is just as affectionate and playful as any other hamster.
She does require a heated habitat, particularly in the winter, as well as a higher protein diet to remain warm.”
Silky has a proclivity for becoming chilly due to her lack of hair. Selene Mejia, an animal care specialist, felt awful for Silky when she saw her crouched in the corner of her cage and decided she had to do something about it.
As a result, Mejia made Silky a beautiful tiny jumper.
Silky seems lot more at ease now that she’s warm, and she appears to be smitten with her new sweater.
Silky is now suffering from an eye illness, but after she recovers, she will be ready for adoption. Silky is a really kind hamster that will fit in nicely in any new home as long as it is comfortable and warm.
