Chihuahua Sneakily Wins Over Guy Who ‘Doesn’t Like Small Dogs’

Sheridan Oliver Martin expected some criticism when she informed her husband Sinclair that she wanted their next puppy to be a Chihuahua. Sinclair was adamant about his dislike towards little dogs.

Sinclair disliked little dogs because he believed they were “yappy and aggressive,” and he wanted a dog who could compete with Merlin, his pitbull/German shepherd mix. “He wanted a large, robust dog that could play rough with Merlin, and he didn’t think a small dog could,” Martin explained.

Martin, who grew up with a Chihuahua, understood that little dogs should not be underestimated.

“I begged and pleaded, and ultimately he succumbed and agreed I could [have a Chihuahua] for my next birthday,” Martin recounted. “I remember him lecturing me the entire week before and the entire car journey there about how she would be my duty and my dog, and he wouldn’t have anything to do with her.”

They got a puppy called Pickles, and she captured her new dad’s heart the instant she met him. All she had to do was look him in the eyes with her huge brown eyes and cuddle up to him.

“As soon as the vehicle door shuts, he turns to me and points to Pickles, saying, ‘Um, yes, that’s OUR dog,'” Martin recounted. “And she’s just gazing at him like, ‘Yeah, I am,'” says the narrator.

Sinclair assumed major responsibility for Pickles’ care right away, from washing her filthy paws to putting her sweaters on. “He tucks her in next his pillow every night,” Martin added. “He completely changed his mind.”

Pickles was also a delight to play with when it came to Merlin. The little dog is a natural athlete that enjoys nothing more than sprinting, jumping, and battling with dogs ten times her own size. “Pickles makes Merlin’s life a living misery,” Martin remarked. “She wears him out.”

Pickles’ extroverted demeanor helps her make friends and convert detractors of little dogs into supporters.

Martin added, “Pickles has the personality of a 100-pound dog in a 5-pound body.” “She makes everyone laugh because she creates incredibly hilarious human facial expressions, like she knows something you don’t, or she’s arrogant, or she simply looks really pleased.”

Martin added, “She has a way of making you feel her affection.” “She did the same with my father, who despises little pets, particularly Chihuahuas. It’s difficult to avoid her greeting her favorite folks as if they’re her very favorite thing in the world.”
