Rooster Shows Up At Auto Shop One Day And Decides He Works There Now

It was just another day at R and R Garage in North Carolina last summer when a rooster strolled by and didn’t appear to have any intentions to leave. The workers believed he’d been abandoned and began feeding him leftovers from the shop refrigerator, but when they went on vacation, they expected he’d go on to a new location.

He was still there when they all returned, so they christened him Earl and he’s been the store rooster ever since.

Unless the weather is terrible, Earl sleeps in a neighboring tree at night, and then everyone makes sure he’s safe inside for the night. Earl excitedly welcomes his coworkers as they arrive for the day every morning, and he’s developed a regular rhythm around the business that everyone has grown to know and appreciate.

Joe Gallo, co-owner of R and R Garage, told The Dodo, “He comes sprinting when the first man walks in to open up for the day.” “After getting his cup of scratch, he walks around the shop seeking for any bugs. He searches behind all of the toolboxes and workbenches for spiders and whatever else he can discover.”

Earl likes to follow all of the personnel around the garage after his morning breakfast search and hang out with them. He appears to assume he’s just another garage employee, which he is at this point.

“He’ll come up to the shop and sleep beneath the car you’re working on or in a corner,” Gallo added. “He is unconcerned with loud noises or passers-by. We’ve stumbled over him a few times since he sleeps in front of the office entrance.”

Earl appears to be completely unaware that he is frequently in the way…

…and everyone at the store has just accepted that working around their rooster mascot is a part of their everyday routine.

Earl has been “working” at the business for so long that he’s become something of a celebrity in the community, and everyone at the shop has accepted their little feathered employee fully. They’re even redesigning their logo and ordering jerseys with his face on them to show him that he’s an actual member of the squad.

“We can’t believe how much attention Earl is receiving… he’s the talk of the town now,” Gallo remarked. “When clients come to pick up their automobiles, they sometimes bring additional friends or family members to meet Earl.”
