Pit Bull Always Brings Her Blind Chicken Sister Her Favorite Toys

Peri was adopted by her family when she was just a few days old, and six months later, she developed a severe eye infection. The chicken’s family treated her for months with regular meds and even took her to many experts, but they eventually found that blindness was unavoidable. Peri’s family, determined to aid her as much as they could, quickly started about ensuring that her blindness did not prevent her from doing everything she desired.

Peri’s mother, Christa Hubbard, told The Dodo, “We made adjustments to help her as she lost her sight: bowls on a throw rug that make noise, special low roosting bars, an ottoman in the living room to ‘watch’ TV with us in the evening and an extra large ottoman in our room, next to our bed, for her bed.” “When we weren’t home, we hired a chicken ‘nanny’ to look after her.”

Peri has grown into the kindest, most cuddly chicken around, and she enjoys having the care she needs from her family since she needed so much attention at such an early age. When she initially went blind, her pit bull brother, Taj, recognized something was wrong right away and became her primary defender.

“He was three years old at the time and instantly took to assisting her with her navigation,” Hubbard added. “A hen with a seeing eye dog.” They were together for the following eight years. He would safeguard and guide her. They sunbathed and napped together. Taj died of cancer in July after a protracted fight. Peri felt forlorn without her pal; she knew he’d vanished.”

Peri’s family was concerned about how she would cope without Taj, who had been such an important part of her life. They opted to adopt two pit bull puppies despite the fact that their hearts were still healing. Peri brightened up again as soon as they joined the family, delighted to have made new pals. Peri learned to love her sister Gracie as the pups got older, and the two are now as close as Peri and Taj were when they were younger — with one charming extra.

Because Peri is blind, Gracie is always concerned that she won’t be able to discover her favorite toys on her own, so she takes them to her whenever she can. Peri is incredibly thankful to her best buddy for every gesture, as if she believes the toys would also soothe and assist her as she navigates life.

“Gracie will bring Peri a toy and set it in front of her while she waits,” Hubbard explained. “Gracie may be seen resting outside the gate waiting for Peri while she’s out in her yard doing chicken things” (Peri has a fenced-in area as we have a pool). Gracie offers Peri a toy as she is ‘viewing’ TV on her ottoman. When we get up in the morning, Gracie checks on her sleeping pal.”
