A Horse Makes His First Friend, a Shy Cat Who Grew Up In A Shelter

Jennifer Boyle has always had a large family of horses and cats, with whom she has always lived in peace. But it wasn’t until Champy and Morris arrived that she realized the horses and cats would become great friends.

Morris the cat had spent his whole life at the shelter before his mom took him into her household when he was approximately 9 months old. He’d never known what it was like to have a house or any friends since he was born into a shelter existence. He was understandably overwhelmed and apprehensive about everything at first, until he met Champy one morning, only a few days after being adopted.

“After a few days of settling in, I released Morris into my front porch, and Champy was instantly interested in him, going up to say hello and then insisting on grooming Morris,” Boyle told The Dodo. “Morris had never seen a horse before and was a little timid at first, but Champy wants to befriend everyone he encounters.”

While Morris was first skeptical of Champy since the horse was so much larger than him, Champy refused to give up on attempting to be his friend…

“After Champy had groomed Morris for approximately a week, Morris felt secure with him and leapt onto Champy’s back to groom him in return,” Boyle explained.

Morris and Champy have become the best of friends. The unusual couple does everything together, even napping…

Champy enjoys going for rides on Morris’ back, and it appears that this is how the two spend the most of their time together. They just put on their rain gear and battle the elements together, even if the weather isn’t ideal.

Morris was first afraid of Champy, but his horse companion showed him that friendship comes in all forms and sizes. The unusual pals are now inseparable.

“They’re great friends who have a lot of faith in one another,” Boyle added. “I have two cats and four horses, but Champy and Morris are greatest friends.”
