Mama Moose Transform a Garden Into a Nursery For Her Youngsters

Roland Rydstrom of Anchorage, Alaska, opened the curtains earlier this month to let the early light enter his home. He was about to settle down to work when he noticed something out the window that was extremely distracting.

He was aware that two mothers had given birth to twins in the woods around his home about a month earlier, but he generally only saw the small family when they walked past his yard.

This mom moose and her kids showed no signs of wanting to leave, looking quite pleased to spend the day in Rydstrom’s garden.

He thought catching the moose family at such a private time was rare, so he took a couple photographs with his phone.

Rydstrom told The Dodo, “I sat down to work, fully expecting the moose to move away, and they didn’t.” “They would simply shift postures and, as you can see from the photos, the infants in particular would just kind of migrate about to meet the sun.”

He said, “It was great to watch the infants lazing together.” “They would just get up and change positions every now and then.”

Rydstrom worked from the protection of his window, keeping an eye on the moose. “We are aware that these are wild animals,” Rydstrom explained. “We would always respect their privacy and give them freedom to lounge as they did, especially with a mom and her babies.”

One of the babies managed to knock over his flower plant. The small animal appeared to be scratching his head on the pot to Rydstrom, but as it tipped over, the cheeky smirk on the baby’s face revealed a different story.

The moose family also left and returned again, much to Rydstrom’s astonishment. “They got up and went away, and I thought they were gone,” Rydstrom recalled, “but they came back and did it again.” “On their way out, they tasted everything and did what infants do, placing everything in their mouth.”

Rydstrom went to his window about 7 p.m. after hearing a loud boom coming from his backyard.

Rydstrom explained, “All of a sudden, I noticed the other cow and her calves were racing into our property and past that household.” “The mother and her children sprang to their feet and chased after them. It had been a jam-packed day.”

Rydstrom is delighted to babysit the moose if they return to his yard for the day.
