Shelter Dogs Are Invited To Run With The High School Cross-Country Team

On a beautiful summer day, no one likes to be locked up indoors, and shelter animals are no exception. These cooped-up pups were fortunate in that they were able to find just the right folks to help them go out and about.

The dozen or so adoptable dogs at the Santa Barbara County Animal Shelter had the happiest morning ever on Thursday.

Students from the St. Joseph High School Cross-Country Team in California decided to invite them to their regular exercise. So, before setting out for a mile-long run as one big happy bunch, everybody was partnered with a dog partner.

It was really lovely.

“I’m not sure who was more enthusiastic and having the most fun… the dogs or the kids,” team coach Luis Escobar said on the team’s website. “In any case, it was a lot of fun, and I’m sure we’ll do it again soon.”

Everyone engaged, even young Fred, seemed to be having a great time.

We hope that this becomes a common event, and that it inspires other schools to do the same.

Also, remember to adopt rather than shop.
