Great Dane Gives Birth To Super-Sized 19 Puppy Litter

A Great Dane lived up to her greatness after giving birth to a whopping, super-sized litter of 19 puppies.

Imagine carrying and delivering 19 babies. That dog is a real hero.

The new mother, named Cleo, had her babies at Kingman Animal Hospital in Kingman, Arizona by Caesarian section; because let’s be honest, I don’t think even the best mother in the world could cope with naturally pushing out 19 children one after the other.

Every pup was happy and healthy, and the adorable dogs were pictured snuggling together in the hospital’s treatment area after Cleo’s surgery was complete.

Kingman Animal Hospital shared the cute photos on Facebook, where they revealed it took 11 members of staff to help deliver the huge litter.

They wrote:

The staff of KAH (11 of us) successfully delivered 19 Great Dane puppies this morning by C Section! All live and healthy! Mom doing great!

This is in our treatment area where we were checking puppies afterwards for any issues.

Thank you all for the kind words and congrats to the momma dog and our hard working staff that came in for this emergency.

The post didn’t mention Cleo’s human family, but hopefully her owner was prepared to welcome 19 new little faces into their life!

There are worse situations to be in, I think.

I imagine the puppies will be taken in by a number of different families when they’re old enough – 20 fully-grown Great Danes would certainly take up a lot of space – but who knows, their owner might decide to keep the family together and let them take over the house.

The breed is known for their size, with the World Record for tallest dog currently held by a Great Dane named Zeus, who measured a staggering 44 inches (1.118 metres) tall.

There’s some dispute as to what the record is for the biggest litter ever delivered, but according to Vet Street a Neapolitan Mastiff named Tia popped out 24 pups in 2004, so Cleo almost got off lightly in comparison!

The animal hospital’s post was met with a lot of comments from amazed Facebook users, with plenty sharing the love for Cleo and the staff at Kingman.

One commenter joked:

Gonna be a lot of feeding shifts going on at that residence for sure. congratulations to KAH staff and New Momma.

While another wrote:

Oh my goodness. I am glad she is healthy and doing well. Don’t ever let that male dog touch her again LOL that’s a lot of puppy.

Hopefully the pups will all grow up to be as awesome as Cleo!
